What is Chatbase?
Chatbase is an AI chatbot platform that lets you build AI agents trained on your own data.
You can train it on your website, documents or knowledge base. Then, Chatbase will use it to automatically reply to questions.
But Chatbase goes beyond simple chatbots. You can also connect your agent to other tools, allowing it to take actions like booking appointments, checking order statuses, or collecting leads.
One thing that stands out is how easy it is to get started. Unlike more complex platforms that require technical setup, Chatbase lets you go build an AI chatbot in just a few minutes.
At the same time, it offers enough flexibility for more advanced use cases, AI actions, Chat logs and Suggestions.
How to use Chatbase?
It’s super easy to get started with Chatbase. You can train the chatbot very quickly on your sources, such as your website or documents:
And then once it’s been trained, you can immediately talk to it in the Playground:
When the chatbot is created, you can manage it from several tabs:
- Playground – This is where you can talk with your agent after training it, and check if it gives the right answers to your questions
- Activity – Here you can see all conversations and leads who talked with your agent
- Analytics – Analytics of your agent
- Sources – These are the knowledge base sources you can train your agent on
- Actions – These are the actions your agent can do (like scheduling calls or collecting lead info)
- Contacts – Contacts that you can save via the API
- Deploy – This is where you can connect your agent with channels, such as your website, WhatsApp and Instagram
- Settings – This is where you control the settings of your agent
Additionally, you can let the chatbot take AI actions on your behalf. This means that when someone asks something, you can let it do a certain action. For example, the agent can update customer’s order information or book appointments.
To do this, Chatbase offers multiple integrations:
You can also improve your agent’s answers by using Chat Logs (in the Activity tab):
Simply click on Improve answer to improve the answer of your agent:
Likewise, you can set several settings, such as how often it should retrain and custom instructions for your chatbot:
This is what makes Chatbase so good. You can easily train an AI chatbot on your data. Within minutes, you can start talking to it. And then you can revise each answer, to ensure it always gives a good response.
When thinking of drawbacks, I can only imagine one: It’s not possible to create your own custom chatbot flows.

Chatbase AI Features
Chatbase’s AI features are the core of the platform. Instead of building traditional chatbot flows, everything revolves around training an AI agent on your data and improving its responses over time.
There are 3 main features:
- AI knowledge base
- AI actions
- Suggestions
AI Knowledge Base
This is what makes Chatbase so powerful: instead of manually building flows, you let the AI handle conversations based on your data.
You can easily train your Chatbase chatbot on 6 types of data:
- Files (PDFs, Word documents and text files)
- Text
- Website URLs
- Question & Answers
- Notion
- Support tickets from Zendesk or Salesforce
The agent can then automatically answer questions based on that data.
Additionally, you can:
- Choose the LLM model
- Give it custom instructions
- Determine the temperature
Chatbase also gives you the flexibility in choosing which AI models powers your agent. You’re not limited to a single model like ChatGPT. Instead, you can choose from multiple leading AI models depending on your needs, like Claude, Llama and DeepSeek.
I would say that the knowledge base is the main reason why you want to use Chatbase. With their Knowledge Base feature, you can create a Chatbase AI agent within minutes, by just giving a few files or your website URL.
Suggestions
Suggestions is a cool feature that spots issues in your knowledge base. If your agent struggles to answer questions due to missing knowledge, the Suggestions feature will point that out.
AI Actions
You can also give the agent access to AI actions.
For example, you can automatically book appointments when people are ready for it. To do that, you can connect Chatbase to Calendly. Then, it can automatically show available slots and book them in your calendar.

Chatbase Integrations
Chatbase offers several direct integrations with:
- Support tools, like Zendesk, Intercom, HubSpot and Salesforce
- eCommerce platforms like Stripe and Shopify
- Appointment platforms like Calendly and Cal.com
- Slack
- Automation platforms like Zapier, Make and N8N
If you need live chat, Chatbase doesn’t offer it natively. However, it integrates with tools like Zendesk, Intercom, and HubSpot, allowing you to combine AI with human support when needed.
Likewise, you can create your own integrations using custom actions in Chatbase:
If you need custom integrations, Chatbase also offers an API and Webhooks to send Leads data to other applications.

Channels, Lead Capture & Marketing
With Chatbase, you can deploy your AI agent across multiple channels, including your website, email, Slack, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
For most users, the main use case will be the website widget, which is easy to install and customize to your branding:
You can also automatically show the widget after a certain number of seconds, which can help increase engagement.
Additionally, Chatbase lets you create a standalone help page that looks similar to a ChatGPT interface:
For lead generation, you can use AI actions to collect user information during conversations, such as names, email addresses, or phone numbers:
On the marketing side, Chatbase is mainly focused on the website experience. You can customize the widget and guide users through conversations, but it doesn’t offer advanced marketing automation features.
For example, there are no built-in campaigns or automation for channels like WhatsApp or Instagram, and it’s not designed for proactive messaging based on user behavior.
Chatbase Pricing
Chatbase offers a free plan with basic features, and paid plans starting at $40/month.
The free plan lets you create 1 chatbot and train it on 400 KB of content. You receive 50 credits per month, allowing you to ask your bot 50 questions. This is enough to test the platform.
For more features, you can upgrade to the Hobby plan ($40/month). This includes 500 message credits/month, access to advanced models, 5 AI actions per agent, 10 MB of training content, 2 team members and basic analytics.
For more features, you can get the Standard Plan or the Pro Plan, that come with more message credits and AI agents.
Also, if you pay yearly, you get 2 months free on any plan.
Chatbase Add-Ons
If you need more flexibility, Chatbase offers several add-ons:
- Auto-recharge credits: $40 per 1,000 message credits

Analytics
Chatbase offers general analytics on the number of chats that occurred during a certain time:
Not only this, Chatbase also provides insights into the location of the users communicating with the chatbot.
To improve the answers of your chatbot, you can check all the conversations in the Chat Logs overview:
Here, you can also filter on the Confidence Score (score of how confident Chatbase was when giving the answer). A low score indicates that you probably need to have a look at the answer Chatbase gave.
And then you can revise the answers of your chatbot whenever it’s necessary:
Whenever you revise the answer, Chatbase will automatically learn from that and improve itself, which is great.
On the one hand, this gives you a lot of control on how your chatbot is answering.
But, if your chatbot has many conversations, it can take a lot of time to revise the answers.
For example, adding a feature where you can ask if the question from the person was answered would be a great addition to Chatbase.

Hey Lynn! Nope, they are still in business, but I got this complaint before. Where are you living?
Very helpful review. Clear.
Thank you, CB!
cuando lo conecté a IG, meta me envió una advertencia de que tengo un integrador automatizado y no cumple con sus políticas. entonces debo bajarlo?
Hey Banco! If you get this warning, I recommend disabling Chatbase for a day or so. Then, activate it again.
This is not a Chatbase issue, rather a Meta issue. They have spam systems in place that cause this, which is pretty annoyting (also happens with other platforms).
