How To Create Auto Reply Bot for Facebook Comments

In this tutorial, I break down how you can automatically reply to comments on Facebook. Basically, we are going to create our own Facebook Comment Bot.

I will show you how to:

  • Create a Facebook Chat Funnel that generates leads from Facebook, on auto pilot
  • Boost the engagement of your Facebook Page
  • And how you can set up the automated funnel yourself

Facebook Comment to Messenger automation allows you to start a conversation in Messenger to any user who comments on your Facebook post.

It’s a great way to boost your Facebook engagement, turn your followers into leads and get more sales.

You are not limited to sending a single message, but you can create a complete Facebook Chat funnel.

Here’s why that’s way better than using traditional “landing pages” 👇

Why auto reply to comments on Facebook?

Many businesses already use lead generation funnels on Facebook. But, they use landing pages instead of chat funnels.

And because of this, they are missing out on thousands of leads and Facebook engagement. Here’s why:

So a normal Facebook lead funnel looks like this:

  1. You are promoting your lead magnet on your Facebook posts and telling people they should click on the link in your post
  2. When they click on that, they will go to your landing page
  3. And then eventually here, they will sign up for your lead magnet

That’s a normal Facebook lead funnel, right?

The problem is that when we send our Facebook traffic to our landing page, we lose about 80% of it. Because most people don’t click on our link.

So we are already losing 80% there.

Of the people that come to our landing page, on average, only 10% converts. So that means that only 10% leave their name and email address to sign up for a lead magnet.

So if we start with 1000 people on Facebook, eventually only 200 people will come to our landing page. And only 20 people will actually sign up and become a lead:

And this funnel also hurts your Facebook reach and engagement, because you are sending people away from Facebook. And that is not what Facebook wants.

Facebook wants to make money. And they make money by showing ads to people.

But they can’t show ads if someone is not on the Facebook platform.

As a Facebook Page, if you keep people on the Facebook platform, this will help you rank better in the algorithm.

And that’s exactly what we are going to do by using a Facebook Chat Funnel.

 

Facebook Auto Comment Strategy

Instead of asking people to click on our link, we ask them to comment on our Facebook post with a specific word.

So let’s say, we are sharing a free guide with our followers, we ask them to comment the word “GUIDE”.

Once they comment that word on our Facebook post, we can automatically reply with a comment in the comment section and start a conversation in Facebook Messenger.

And this is where the difference lies, so we are not sending them to a landing page, we are starting a conversation.

Inside the Messenger conversation, we can ask for their email and deliver our lead magnet:

And by doing so, we can at least 10X our results.

Because instead of losing 80% of our traffic, we are keeping 100% of our Facebook traffic.

When we use Facebook Chat Funnels for our own clients, we see that 50% will sign up for your lead magnet once they enter the funnel.

So if we are starting out with 1000 Facebook followers, we actually end up with 500 leads.

And by using this strategy, we will also increase the engagement of our Facebook Page.

Because when someone comments on your Facebook post, you get an extra comment on your post.

Then you automatically reply to that comment, which is also another comment on your post.

Then someone replies to your message in Facebook Messenger, which is another touchpoint.

And eventually, you have an automated back-and-forth conversation. It consists of multiple messages, all of which are touchpoints.

That will boost your rank in the Facebook algorithm, expand your reach and increase your engagement again.

So now that you know why we should use a Facebook Chat Funnel, let’s start with creating one.

 

How to Auto Reply to Facebook Comments

It’s super simple to create an Auto Reply Bot for Facebook Comments. Here’s how you can do it in 5 steps:

Step 1: Create a Free Manychat account

And click on Continue with Facebook to connect your Facebook account:

Once you’re logged in, you can select the Facebook Page and connect it to Manychat.

Step 2: Set Manychat as your Primary Receiver

The next step is to set Manychat as your Primary Receiver. By doing this, you basically tell Facebook that you want Manychat to handle your Facebook comments and messages.

In your Manychat dashboard, click on Settings in the left-hand menu and then select Messenger from the settings options.

Then scroll down to find Current Manychat Role and ensure it is set to Primary. If not, click on the provided link and follow the steps to change it:

This is very important, if you don’t have Manychat as set to Primary, automated replies on Facebook comments will not work.

Step 3: Set up the Comment Trigger in Manychat

To start our automation when somebody comments on our Facebook posts, we need to set up the Auto Reply Comment trigger in Manychat.

To do this, click on Automation in the Manychat dashboard and click on New Automation:

The first step is to add a trigger to our automation by clicking on New trigger:

The trigger is the event that will start our Manychat automation and thereby will start our Messenger conversation.

Then click on Messenger and choose User comments on your post:

And the next step is to decide to what posts it should reply. Here we can choose for a specific post or to reply to any posts.

In general, I recommend choosing for Any post, because then we just create one automation in Manychat and use that in multiple posts:

Now, we need to decide to what words we want reply. So we can reply to any words or we reply to specific words.

Let’s say, we are a Fitness influencer and we are giving a free guide on building more muscle. Then we can ask our Facebook followers to comment “GUIDE” on our post. And once they do that, that will start the conversation in Facebook Messenger.

So we will go with Specific words and add GUIDE here:

And as you see, I also added some variations if people misspell the word, which is good practice.

The next thing is creating a Public Auto-Response. And this is the comment that automatically responds in the comment section of your post. This comment should instruct users to check their Messenger inbox and build excitement for your lead magnet.

So we can enable Public Auto-response in Feed and add multiple variations:

Step 4: Designing the Facebook Messenger Conversation

To automatically send a message in Facebook Messenger when someone comments on your post, we need to click on Messenger as our first message block:

In this first message, we want to confirm the interest of the user in our lead magnet. So we will say:

{{first_name}}, are you ready to gain more muscle and take your body to the next level?

You also need to ensure this message is set to Send as Comment Reply (at the top). This is very important that it’s set correctly, otherwise it will not work:

By the way, because we are using Facebook Messenger we already know the user’s name. This means we can make the more personal by using their name right away in the conversation. And this makes Facebook Chat funnels better than landing pages, because on a landing page you should have asked for it. Now, we already know it!

The first message we send can only contain text and buttons or quick replies. If you’re thinking of using pictures or videos, that’s not possible because of Facebook rules.

Then, we can also add a button, which will appear under this message. Once someone clicks on that button, they will go further inside the conversation.

So we can add a button with “Yes, send it over!”:

Now, we want to collect the email of the user before we are giving our lead magnet. So we can add another message with:

Awesome, just one quick step to get you access!

And then add the User Input element:

With User Input in Manychat, we can ask a question and store the answer to that question in a Manychat field. Then we can use that data in the rest of our Manychat automations.

To get the email address of the user, we can ask “What email do you want your free guide sent to?” and set the Reply Type to Email:

By setting the Reply Type to Email, Manychat validates the entered email address. If the user answers with a wrong email, Manychat will ask the user to try again with a different one.

Important: Every time we ask someone’s email in the Messenger conversation, automatically a bubble pops-up with the email address that is associated with the Facebook profile. So this means that users don’t need to type in their email, they can just click on the bubble. This highly increases your conversion compared to landing pages!

Next, we need to remove the Skip button text, so people cannot skip this crucial step:

Once the email is collected, we can give a link to the lead magnet directly in the conversation. To do this, we create a new message with:

Step 5: Publish and Test your Automation

Now, your complete Auto Reply to Comments Funnel should look like this:

To activate your automation, click on Set Live in the top-right corner:

Now, your funnel is live and you can test it by commenting on one of your Facebook posts with the specified keyword to ensure the funnel works as intended.
