Which one is better? MobileMonkey vs ManyChat

MobileMonkey and ManyChat are one of the most popular chatbot builders out there.

They are both mainly used for chatbots on Facebook Messenger and don’t require any coding skills, so anyone can build a chatbot with them!

But which platform should you use? What are the differences? And which one is better?

Let’s find out!

1. Interface

MobileMonkey

When building your chatbot with MobileMonkey, it uses Dialogues. In each Dialogue, you can select several messages to show to the user to make a good conversation.

These Dialogues can be divided into folders, so everything remains structured.

Besides, you can test the chatbot inside Messenger, before it actually goes live.

  • Visual Flow Builder
  • Test chatbot
  • Interface easy to use?
  • Easy to setup a chatbot?

ManyChat

The ManyChat interface is one of the best interfaces I have ever seen in chatbot software. And this is because of the flexibility.

In ManyChat you can choose between two interfaces: The Basic builder (kind of like the Dialogues in MobileMonkey) and the Flow builder (which is a visual flow builder):

Just as with MobileMonkey, you can test your chatbot flows inside Messenger, before it actually goes live.

  • Visual Flow Builder
  • Test chatbot
  • Interface easy to use?
  • Easy to setup a chatbot?

The winner: ManyChat

ManyChat has a better interface.

This is mainly because of the flexibility. With MobileMonkey there is only one type of interface, while with ManyChat you can choose between two interfaces (the Basic Builder and the Flow Builder).

2. Chatbot Elements

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey provides a wide range of chatbot elements to build your chatbot.

There are only a few things they don’t provide: Audio, Vertical lists, Location Sharing and Date Validation.

  • Delays
  • Images
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Attachments
  • Gallery (Horizontal list)
  • Vertical list
  • Emojis
  • Persistent Menu
  • Quick Replies
  • Buttons
  • Free text input
  • Location sharing
  • Email validation
  • Phone number validation
  • Date validation

ManyChat

Just as MobileMonkey, ManyChat provides a lot of chatbot elements.

The only thing they don’t provide is Vertical Lists, which is logical, because Facebook Messenger doesn’t allow this anymore.

  • Delays
  • Images
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Attachments
  • Gallery (Horizontal list)
  • Vertical list
  • Emojis
  • Persistent Menu
  • Quick Replies
  • Buttons
  • Free text input
  • Location sharing
  • Email validation
  • Phone number validation
  • Date validation

The winner: ManyChat

This is a small win for ManyChat.

They both have all the necessary elements to make a great chatbot, but ManyChat just has three more: Audio, Location Sharing and Date Validation.

3. Users

MobileMonkey

With MobileMonkey, you can add custom fields and tags to users. You can just ask a question and save the response in a custom field.

With these custom fields and tags you can make user segments called “Audiences”.

In MobileMonkey you have a good overview of all the contacts you get through your chatbot:

mobilemonkey-leads

  • Custom fields
  • Tags
  • User segments

ManyChat

With ManyChat you can add custom fields and tags to specific users. Based on those custom fields and tags, you can send messages to specific user segments.

In ManyChat you can view all the users of your chatbot in the “Audience” tab, which gives you a good overview:

manychat-audience

In this overview you can click on each individual user and get all the information of that user, which is extremely useful:

manychat-user

  • Custom fields
  • Tags
  • User segments

No Winner

With both chatbot builders you add custom fields and tags and make user segments based on that information.

So, no winner on this subject!

Let’s move on to Messages.

4. Messages

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey has broadcasts and sequences, and also subscribing/unsubscribing from these sequences.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t provide conditions. So it it not possible to use certain logic in your chatbot flows.

Also, like many other chatbot software, you can make a chatbot in any language with Mobile Monkey. But it is not possible to have a chatbot in multiple languages at the same time.

  • Broadcasts
  • Sequences
  • Conditions
  • Multiple languages
  • Easy to translate

ManyChat

Manychat provides broadcasts, sequences and also subscribing/unsubscribing from sequences.

What I really like about the sequences in ManyChat is that they are really organized. You can see the complete sequence in one overview and you also see which message is sent at which time, a really good feature.

manychat-sequence
An example sequence in ManyChat

Also, with ManyChat you can use a feature called “Conditions”, in which you can use logic to send users through a certain flow.

Moreover, it is possible to make a chatbot in any language, but it is not possible to easily translate this chatbot to different languages (because you need to manually copy all your chatbot flows).

  • Broadcasts
  • Sequences
  • Conditions
  • Multiple languages
  • Easy to translate

The winner: ManyChat

ManyChat wins on this subject.

They provide broadcasts, sequences, conditions and you can have a chatbot in multiple languages.

5. AI & NLP

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey only provides keyword recognition, in which it is possible to group certain keywords together and assign a certain response:

mobilemonkey-keywords

Intents and entities are however not possible. Also, a DialogFlow integration is not provided.

  • Keywords
  • Intents
  • Entities
  • Dialogflow integration

ManyChat

With ManyChat it is only possible to recognize keywords with your chatbot. Based on a keyword (or a group of keywords) your chatbot gives a certain response.

How it looks in ManyChat:

manychat-keywords

It is not possible to grab the intent of the user, use synonyms or use entities.

ManyChat also doesn’t have a direct integration with DialogFlow. However, you can connect with DialogFlow, but you need Janis for this.

  • Keywords
  • Intents
  • Entities
  • Dialogflow integration

The winner: ManyChat

This is a small win for ManyChat.

Both MobileMonkey and ManyChat only provide keyword recognition, but with ManyChat you can also connect it with DialogFlow (through Janis) for better AI capabilities.

6. Channels

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey provides multiple channels to put your chatbot on: Websites, Facebook Messenger, SMS and Email.

I must say that the SMS channel is only available for the United States and Canada right now. So if you are outside those zones, it is not possible to use it.

Moreover, with Mobile Monkey you can send an email as a confirmation to an admin, a sales rep or the customer. So it’s not possible to make complete email campaigns, but you can send confirmation emails with Mobile Monkey.

  • Website
  • Facebook
  • SMS
  • Slack
  • Whatsapp
  • Telegram
  • Skype
  • Email

ManyChat

With ManyChat it is possible to make a chatbot on Facebook Messenger, SMS and Email.

This allows you to make an omnichannel chatbot experience for your users. So for example, when someone gives a certain response on Facebook Messenger, you could send an email based on that response.

With SMS, it is only possible to send text messages to users in 9 countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil.

  • Website
  • Facebook
  • SMS
  • Slack
  • Whatsapp
  • Telegram
  • Skype
  • Email

The winner: ManyChat

This is a small win for ManyChat.

Because ManyChat offers more countries regarding to SMS (9 countries instead of 2) and offers a complete email marketing program, it wins on the subject of Channels.

The reason why it is a small win is because they offer the same channels, but ManyChat offers more countries with SMS and a more complete email channel.

7. Integrations

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey has a built-in live chat integration, which is the most important integration of every chatbot software. Also, they have a mobile app for their live chat, so you can talk to your customers when you are on the go. Really good!

Next to live chat, MobileMonkey also provides an integration with Zapier, which allows you to connect your chatbot with almost every software on earth.

Moreover, you can make your own webhooks using the MobileMonkey API.

  • Livechat
  • Zapier
  • Integromat
  • Google Sheets
  • Webhooks

ManyChat

ManyChat has a built-in live chat integration. Really good, because this is the most important integration a chatbot software needs. They also provide integrations for:

  • Zapier
  • Integromat
  • Google Sheets
  • ActiveCampaign
  • MailChimp
  • ConvertKit
  • HubSpot
  • Walletly
  • Botsheets
  • Janis

By the way, what I really like about the live chat integration of ManyChat is that they also have an iOS app and Android app, so you can respond to user inquiries on the go.

  • Livechat
  • Zapier
  • Integromat
  • Google Sheets
  • Webhooks

The winner: ManyChat

This is (again) a small win for ManyChat.

They provide more direct integrations with other software packages, such as Integromat and Google Sheets.

The reason why I call it a small win is because with MobileMonkey you can still integrate with any software on earth using their Zapier integration.

8. Marketing

MobileMonkey

For marketing, MobileMonkey provides extremely well. They provide every feature on the list, except for the button creator. But this does not matter much, because they do provide all the other features.

What makes Mobile Monkey unique is its website widget. They call it the Omnichat widget and it is capable of the following:

  • If a user is logged in to Facebook Messenger, show a Facebook Messenger widget
  • When the user is not logged in to Facebook Messenger, show a native website widget

mobilemonkey-chat-widget-settings

This is really useful and also a feature that other chatbot software don’t provide.

Moreover, you can also customize the native website widget so that it matches the branding or your website:

mobilemonkey-chat-widget

And also decide when you want to show the chat widget:

mobilemonkey-chat-widget-behavior

  • Facebook website widget
  • Native website widget
  • Landing pages
  • Facebook Ads
  • Facebook comments auto-reply
  • Button creator
  • Custom URLs for your chatbot

ManyChat

With ManyChat, is possible to put a Facebook Messenger widget on your website, create a landing page, connect to Facebook ads, use the One-Time Notification, automatically reply to Facebook comments, create buttons and create custom URLs to your chatbot.

  • Facebook website widget
  • Native website widget
  • Landing pages
  • Facebook Ads
  • Facebook comments auto-reply
  • Button creator
  • Custom URLs for your chatbot

The winner: MobileMonkey

This is a small win for MobileMonkey.

MobileMonkey provides a Facebook website widget and a native website widget, while ManyChat only provides a Facebook website widget.

For some people this native website widget is really important, because then your chatbot isn’t associated with Facebook in any way.

9. Pricing

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey provides a free plan with enough features to test out their platform. It includes 1000 messages per month, MobileMonkey branding, sequences and setting up one keyword.

The next pricing plan (Pro) is $14.25 per month for 2000 messages per month and some additional features:

  • SMS tools
  • Scheduled broadcasts
  • MobileMonkey API
  • Zapier Integration

mobilemonkey-pricing

What is important to mention is Facebook Ads and Analytics of your chatbot will only be available in the Pro Unicorn plan.

  • Free trial
  • Free plan
  • Price per month
    19
  • Monthly pricing available?
  • Money back guarantee

ManyChat

ManyChat provides a free plan that stays free forever. This plan is free regardless of the number of subscribers, but does not have all the features that ManyChat provides (but still enough to make a good chatbot).

If you want more features, you can upgrade to the Pro package, which costs 10$ per month, which is a really low price. The price of the Pro package goes up with the number of subscribers your chatbot has. 1K subscribers result in $15 per month and 2.5K subscribers is $25 per month.

manychat-pricing

The only possible drawback is that you cannot have a trial for the Pro package, but this does not matter, because there is a 30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked.

  • Free trial
  • Free plan
  • Price per month
    10
  • Monthly pricing available?
  • Money back guarantee

The winner: ManyChat

This is a win for ManyChat. Overall, ManyChat has lower prices than MobileMonkey.

But the main point why they win is because with ManyChat you can already use Analytics in the free plan and Facebook Ads for $10 per month, while with MobileMonkey you need to pay $49 (or $36.25 if you pay annually) to use these features.

10. Analytics

MobileMonkey

Mobile Monkey provides good analytics to improve your chatbot. They got a dashboard which shows you your total contacts, new contacts, open rate, conversions and number of sessions:

mobilemonkey-analytics

Moreover, you can analyze which questions didn’t get an answer of the chatbot. By analyzing this, you can easily improve the answers of your chatbot:

mobilemonkey-unanswered-questions

  • Dashboard
  • User input
  • User retention
  • Sent messages
  • Open rate
  • Click rate
  • Conversion rate
  • Fall back rate
  • Volunteer users
  • Custom dashboards/reports

ManyChat

ManyChat provides a basic dashboard for your chatbot analytics, showing you the total subscribers, unsubscribes and net subscribes:

manychat-dashboard
Source: ManyChat

Furthermore, they also provide analytics for each block in your chatbot. For each block, they provide the number of people the message is delivered to, the open rate and the click rate.

manychat-analytics-block

And this also holds for sequences:

manychat-analytics-sequence

There are only two drawbacks about the analytics in ManyChat:

  1. The analytics are all over the place. There is no one clear, in-depth dashboard with all relevant analytics, but this is distributed over multiple sections (Broadcasts, Sequences, etc.)
  2. There is no overview of unmatched keywords. If a user filled in a word that did not get a response, you cannot get this information in your ManyChat dashboard. This is a big disadvantage because it does not allow you to easily improve your chatbot. But I have made a solution for this: the ManyChat User Input Dashboard.

What ManyChat also has, is the ManyChat Pixel. This is a pixel you can put on your website to track conversions coming from your chatbot, really useful feature!

  • Dashboard
  • User input
  • User retention
  • Sent messages
  • Open rate
  • Click rate
  • Conversion rate
  • Fall back rate
  • Volunteer users
  • Custom dashboards/reports

No winner

Both chatbots perform decent on the subject of analytics.

It depends on the kind of analytics you want which platform you prefer.

If you mainly use Facebook campaigns with your chatbot, you probably like the analytics of ManyChat more.

But if you primarily focus on customer service with your chatbot, MobileMonkey has better analytics for you (because it shows the user input the chatbot didn’t understand).

11. eCommerce

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey does not have direct integrations with any eCommerce software.

But, because they have an integration with Zapier, it is possible to connect with your eCommerce software through Zapier.

  • Payments
  • Shopify
  • WooCommerce
  • Buy directly within the chatbot
  • Cart abandonment

ManyChat

ManyChat has a direct integration with Shopify that allows you to:

  • Recover abandoned carts
  • Notify customers about orders and shipment updates
  • Collect reviews and feedback after purchase
  • Generate repeated purchases

It is, however, not possible to buy a product from your Shopify store within the chatbot.

But, you can receive payments through your chatbot by using the Stripe or Paypal integration.

The only drawback is that ManyChat doesn’t have a WooCommerce integration.

  • Payments
  • Shopify
  • WooCommerce
  • Buy directly within the chatbot
  • Cart abandonment

The Winner: ManyChat

MobileMonkey doesn’t provide any direct eCommerce integrations, while ManyChat provides a direct integration with Shopify, Stripe and Paypal.

The win is for ManyChat.

12. Templates & Cloning

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey provides 23 templates, which are all free.

Furthermore, they provide a Template Sharing feature, but you need the Team plan for this (which is $299 per month).

Moreover, you can duplicate your chatbot flows and your chatbot elements.

  • Templates
    23
  • Make template
  • Share template
  • Duplicate chatbot flows
  • Duplicate chatbot elements

ManyChat

ManyChat provides 19 templates which you can directly install to make your chatbot. These include free templates and templates only available for Pro users.

With ManyChat it is possible to make a chatbot template and share it with others. This is really useful when you are making multiple chatbots who do the same thing (for example, Lead generation).

Furthermore, it is possible to duplicate your chatbot flows and chatbot elements to make your chatbot faster.

  • Templates
    19
  • Make template
  • Share template
  • Duplicate chatbot flows
  • Duplicate chatbot elements

The Winner: ManyChat

This is a small win.

With both chatbot builders you can make and share templates, but with ManyChat it is already possible in their Free plan, while with MobileMonkey you need to pay $299 for this (a bit expensive).

13. Optimization

MobileMonkey

It is not possible to do any optimization (like A/B testing) in MobileMonkey.

  • A/B Testing

ManyChat

It is possible to do A/B testing in ManyChat, but it is not available in the free plan. So you need to upgrade to a “Pro” plan if you want to unlock this feature.

  • A/B Testing

The winner: ManyChat

With ManyChat it is possible to do A/B Testing, while with MobileMonkey it’s not.

So, ManyChat wins!

14. Support

MobileMonkey

MobileMonkey has extensive tutorials on how to make chatbots.

Besides, they have good documentation and customer support if you have any questions.

Moreover, they have a Facebook community with 40.000 members who will help you when you get stuck.

  • Tutorials
  • Documentation
  • Customer support

ManyChat

Just like MobileMonkey, ManyChat provides extensive tutorials on how to make a chatbot and all of the features on their platform.

They also have good documentation and customer support.

What I also love about ManyChat is that they have a large Facebook community (75.000 members) in which you can ask all kinds of questions and learn more about the platform.

  • Tutorials
  • Documentation
  • Customer support

No Winner

No winner on this one.

They do equally good on this subject by providing extensive information about their platform and having a large community of members willing to help each other.

Who is het winner?

It depends.

If you want a native website widget on your website (so not a Facebook website widget), the only option is MobileMonkey, because ManyChat doesn’t provide this.

If you don’t care about the native website widget, I would go with ManyChat

As you’ve read in this comparison, ManyChat has a lot of small wins compared to MobileMonkey, which means they are just a little bit better.

To be clear, this doesn’t mean that MobileMonkey is bad software. MobileMonkey is still excellent software to build your chatbots with, but ManyChat is just a little bit better on most criteria.
