Landbot Review

By Joren Wouters Updated on

Landbot is a tool to create chatbots on your website, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. With Landbot, you can create complete conversational experiences, without using any code.

But should you use Landbot to create your chatbots?

Let’s find out!

User Interface

The interface of Landbot is really intuitive. It provides a visual drag and drop interface, in which you connect blocks together. Each blocks represents a chatbot element, such as asking a question to the user or giving a certain answer:

What is also really useful, is that you can add conditions in your flow and send messages based on the answers that are given to a certain question. So for example, when you ask the age of somebody, you can send people who are under 30 years old to message 1 and people who are over 30 years old to message 2.

Just as with every flow builder, there is one drawback: if you get a lot of flows, the number of options become huge and you will probably lose the overall picture. That’s why Landbot introduced Bricks (very useful!). Bricks allows you to break up your flows into multiple smaller flows, so you can keep everything structured:

Another big plus for Landbot is that you can test your chatbot in the interface itself. In the top corner of your screen there is a button with “Preview” and once you click on it a new window is opened in which you can test the chatbot. This preview also has two modes: desktop mode and mobile phone mode.

Just like Chatfuel, Landbot does also provide a button in the right corner for support. Right from their interface, you have access to the knowledge base, with a lot of articles on how to make a good chatbot. Really nice feature when you get stuck.

  • Test chatbot

  • Easy to setup a chatbot?

Chatbot elements

Landbot provides a wide variety of elements to build your own chatbot. There are only five elements they do not provide, so that is pretty good.

  • Delays
  • Images
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Attachments
  • Gallery (Horizontal list)
  • Vertical list
  • Emojis
  • Persistent Menu
  • Quick Replies
  • Buttons
  • Free text input
  • Location sharing
  • Email validation
  • Phone number validation
  • Date validation

Within Landbot, it is really easy to add custom fields to specific users. You can ask questions to users and the answers will be stored in certain custom fields. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add certain tags to users or to create certain user segments.

Regarding the user segments, it is possible to send a user a specific message based on their response to a question (kind of segmentation). However, it is not possible to send a user a message based on multiple custom fields. Therefore, I determined that user segmentation is not possible.

  • Custom fields
  • Tags
  • User segments

With Landbot, it is not possible to send broadcasts and sequences. But this is also logical, because Landbot is mainly used for chatbots on websites.

Furthermore, conditions are possible with their “Conditional Logic” block, which works like a charm.

With Landbot it is also possible to make a chatbot in any language. They do not provide specific multi-language support, but because with Landbot you can switch from chatbot to chatbot, you could make the following structure:

  1. A general chatbot which asks you for your language
    1. For example “Do you speak English or French”?
    2. If you answer with “French” you get referred to the French chatbot
    3. If you answer with “English” you get referred to the English chatbot
  2. An English chatbot
  3. A French chatbot

For every chatbot, you can also determine the default phrases yourself (for example, if someone is typing a wrong e-mail), so that is not a problem as well. The drawback of this approach however is that you need to do it manually, which takes a lot of time and duplication.

  • Broadcasts
  • Sequences
  • Conditions
  • Multiple languages
  • Easy to translate

In Landbot, you can automatically reply when someone types in a certain keyword. Landbot provides two elements for this: The Keyword Jump and Global Keywords. With the Keyword Jump, the chatbot developer decides when the user asks a question and then routes the user to the right message:

The Global Keywords is different. With the Global Keywords element, you can set up keywords that are valid for the entire flow (except only for a specific moment – which is the case with Keyword Jump).

If keyword-matching alone is not enough for you, you can also integrate with Dialogflow. With this integration, you can understand the intent of the user and use Entities in your Landbot chatbot.

  • Keywords
  • Intents
  • Entities
  • Dialogflow integration

With Landbot, it is possible to create chatbots on your website, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

And the last platform is really interesting, because WhatsApp is not covered by many chatbot builders. Furthermore, the Landbot community themselves say that the WhatsApp platform now is one of the main reasons they chose for Landbot.

  • Website
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Whatsapp
  • Telegram
  • SMS
  • Slack
  • Skype
  • Email

Landbot has a built-in “Human takeover” integration, which is the most important integration any chatbot software needs. Using this integration, you can forward the conversation to a human, which can handle the rest of the conversation using live chat.

They also provide integrations for Zapier (which allows you to connect with every software on earth), Make (formerly Integromat), Google Sheets and Webhooks.

  • Livechat
  • Zapier
  • Integromat
  • Google Sheets
  • Webhooks

I think the best part of Landbot is the conversational experience that you can create on your own website. I have never seen a more engaging chatbot experience on a website with any other chatbot builder than with Landbot.

Using their native widget, you can add your chatbot in multiple formats to your website:

With Landbot, you can also create your own landing pages:

And you can also connect your chatbot to Facebook Ads. That being said, I think the marketing possibilities of Landbot on Facebook are pretty limited. With Facebook, you can also automatically reply to comments and use the One-Time Notification. However, both of these things are not possible with Landbot.

  • Facebook website widget
  • Native website widget
  • Landing pages
  • Facebook Ads
  • Facebook comments auto-reply
  • Button creator
  • Custom URLs for your chatbot

Landbot comes with a free plan that you can use to test out their platform. With this free plan, you get 100 chats per month and you can create a basic chatbot on your website.

If you think Landbot is a good fit for you, you can go with their Starter plan. This plan costs €30 per month, comes with 500 chats per month and you can create chatbots on your website and Facebook Messenger:

When you want more features and want to create chatbots on WhatsApp, you need to with their Professional plan. This plan costs €80 per month and comes with 2500 chats per month and all the features of the Landbot platform.

Besides that, it is good to know that if you want to create a chatbot on WhatsApp you have additional costs (€150 per month):

  • Free trial
  • Free plan
  • Price per month
  • Monthly pricing available?
  • Money back guarantee

Landbot provides pretty basic analytics. It provides a basic dashboard with the number of active and new chats and the number of received and sent messages:

Besides that, you can also see all the user (and their characteristics) that have talked to your chatbot:

But the best part are the Flow analytics. Per chatbot in Landbot, you can see how users went through your chatbot flow and where they are stopping. For example, if your first question is “How old are you?”, this dashboard gives you a nice overview of what the responses of people were. Really nice feature.

Flow Analytics in Landbot

This is a really good feature that allows you to easily improve your chatbot flow!

  • Dashboard
  • User input
  • User retention
  • Sent messages
  • Open rate
  • Click rate
  • Conversion rate
  • Fall back rate
  • Volunteer users
  • Custom dashboards/reports

Unfortunately, Landbot does not have any integrations with eCommerce platforms whatsoever. They do provide an integration with Stripe (not in the free plan), so it is possible to receive payments through your chatbot.

  • Payments
  • Shopify
  • WooCommerce
  • Buy directly within the chatbot
  • Cart abandonment

Templates & Cloning

Landbot provides 66 templates that you can use to get started with building your own chatbot.

It is, unfortunately, not possible to create templates yourself and share them with others.

But it is possible to duplicate your chatbot flows and elements, so that you can easily reuse them.

  • Templates
  • Make template
  • Share template
  • Duplicate chatbot flows
  • Duplicate chatbot elements

It is possible to do A/B testing in Landbot, but it is not in the free plan. You need to upgrade to the “Starter” package (30€/month) if you want to unlock this feature.

  • A/B Testing

Landbot has an extensive knowledge base with a lot of articles on how to build chatbot. They also provide customer support over email and chat, and have a large community on Facebook.

  • Tutorials
  • Documentation
  • Customer support

Do you want a highly engaging experience on your website and also create chatbots on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger? Then Landbot is the right chatbot builder for you.

In my opinion, Landbot outperforms most chatbot builders if you want to create a chatbot on your website.

Besides websites, one of the main reasons why people use Landbot is because of their WhatsApp integration, which is not covered by many other chatbot builders.

How many virtual agents can you create with Landbot?

    1. Joren Wouters

Hey Michelle! You can create an unlimited number of virtual agents with Landbot.

  4. Jens Kjærgaard

Is this one the best tools for building a “decision tree” for you website where you guide your visitors from a problem to a solution by asking them different questions down the path? Or do you suggest another tool for that?

    1. Joren Wouters

Hey Jens! Landbot is a great tool for building a “decision-tree” kind of chatbot. Whether it is the best tool for your needs, depends on what other needs you have. You can compare all different chatbot platforms on this page.
