Landbot is great for small to medium-sized businesses that want to get started with chatbots, without writing any code.

Using the no-code builder, you can create chatbots for your website and WhatsApp within minutes. It’s also often used to build engaging conversational experiences on websites, sometimes serving as complete landing pages.

Landbot offers a free forever plan and a paid plan, starting at €32/month.

Using Landbot’s No-Code Flow Builder

When you get started with creating chatbots with Landbot, you can create multiple chatbots per channel. In the Bot Builder section, you can manage all your chatbots and also divide these over multiple workspaces:

When creating the automations in your chatbot, Landbot provides a no-code flow builder. Within this flow builder, each flow consists of multiple blocks. Each block is a chatbot element, such as asking a question or sending a message:

The flow builder is extremely easy to use, allowing you to drag and drop elements to create your conversational flows.

Additionally, Landbot provides useful keyboard shortcuts to let you build chatbots even faster. For example, you can use Ctrl+Z to Undo your last step or Ctrl+A to select all elements in your flow.

Another big plus for Landbot is that you can test your chatbot in the interface itself. In the top corner of your screen there is a button with “Preview” and once you click on it a new window opens up where you can test the chatbot:

Chatbot elements

Landbot provides a wide variety of elements to build your own chatbot. There are a few chatbot elements I would like to point it:

Condition: By using a condition you can personalize the conversation for each contact you are talking with. This is perfect if you want to create tailored conversational experieriences.

Jump to: This element allows you to jump to another chatbot. An absolute must for the scalability of your bot, because you don’t need to copy and paste similar conversational flows.

Bricks: With Bricks, you can create one subflow and reference that flow in your chatbots. Again, an absolute must if you want to build scalable chatbots. Here’s a simple example of using a Brick in Landbot to ask if we answered the question of the customer:

Execute code: With this element, you can execute Javascript code within your chatbot. It can be as simple as making a calculation (where Landbot also has another element for) or as hard as making an API Call. This is great for flexibility because you are only limited by your own code.

Contacts

Within Landbot, it is really easy to add custom fields to specific users. You can ask questions to users and the answers will be stored in certain custom fields. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add certain tags to users or to create certain user segments. 

Also, on the WhatsApp channel, you can create user segments based on multiple custom fields. These user segments are called “Audiences” in Landbot:

Audiences are only available for WhatsApp, and not for Facebook Messenger and the Website channel.

  • Custom fields
    Store information from your chatbot users inside fields. For example, you can ask for someone's email and store it inside the "email" custom field.
  • Tags
    Add tags to users in your chatbot flows to organize and categorize contacts.
  • User segments
    Can you create user segments based on custom fields and tags?

Messages

With Landbot, it is possible to send broadcasts on WhatsApp.

With Landbot it is also possible to make a chatbot in any language. They do not provide specific multi-language support, but because with Landbot you can switch from chatbot to chatbot, you could make the following structure:

  1. A general chatbot which asks you for your language
    1. For example “Do you speak English or French”?
    2. If you answer with “French” you get referred to the French chatbot
    3. If you answer with “English” you get referred to the English chatbot

For every chatbot, you can also determine the default phrases yourself (for example, if someone is typing a wrong e-mail), so that is not a problem as well. The drawback of this approach however is that you need to do it manually, which takes a lot of time and duplication. 

  • Broadcasts
    Send a message to all or a part of your chatbot users at a specific date and time
  • Sequences
    Send messages on a pre-defined schedule with a certain time interval between those messages
  • Conditions
    Make checks in your chatbot flow based on if-then logic. For example, if the user has not given their email, ask for their email.
  • Multiple languages
    Is it possible to create a chatbot in multiple languages?
  • Easy to translate
    Can you translate text to other languages without using a third-party platform and without creating duplicate flows?

Landbot’s AI Features

Landbot has elaborate keyword-matching and AI features. Let’s cover them one-by-one.

Keyword Matching in Landbot

In your conversational flows, you can automatically reply when someone types in a keyword. Landbot provides two elements for this: The Keyword Jump and Global Keywords. With the Keyword Jump, you can ask a question to the user and then route it to the correct flow:

The Global Keywords are different. With the Global Keywords element, you can set up keywords that are valid for the entire flow (except only for a specific moment – which is the case with Keyword Jump). 

If keyword-matching alone is not enough for you, you can also integrate with Dialogflow. With this integration, you can understand the intent of the user and use Entities in your Landbot chatbot.

Landbot’s AI Assistants

Landbot also provides AI assistants that you can use for customer support, lead generation and appointment booking.

For customer support, you can create your own AI FAQs assistant and give Landbot info where it should rely on when answering questions:

Then, you can use this assistant as a stand-alone assistant or inside your chatbot flows to automatically answer questions from customers.

For lead generation and customer support, you can create an AI Lead Generation Assistant or AI Appointment Booking Assistant. Then, you only have to specify what data you want to get from a lead, assign the right variables and Landbot AI does the rest for you:

With the appointment booking assistant, you can also connect your calendar so that a lead can directly book a spot in your calendar.

Also, Landbot is just using ChatGPT directly in the back end to create these AI assistants.

I think these are great features, allowing you to use the power of AI in your Landbot chatbots.

  • Keywords
    Trigger chatbot flow based on certain words or phrases a user says to the chatbot.
  • Intents
    Trigger a chatbot flow by understanding the intent of the user.
  • Entities
    Capture specific information from sentences. For example, if a user says "veggie pizza", the chatbot can understand it's not a regular pizza, but a veggie pizza.
  • Dialogflow integration
    Does the chatbot platform provide a direct integration with Google's AI Platform?

With Landbot, it is possible to create chatbots on your website, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp or call it via the Landbot API (you need to code for this).

Marketing

I think the best part of Landbot is the conversational experience that you can create on your own website. I have never seen a more engaging chatbot experience on a website with any other chatbot builder than with Landbot.

Using their native widget, you can add your chatbot in multiple formats to your website:

With Landbot, you can also create your own landing pages:

Unfortunately, Landbot does not provide any marketing possibilities on Facebook.

On the other hand, you can send Message Templates on WhatsApp with Landbot.

Landbot’s Free Forever plan comes with 100 chats per month and 1 user seat. It contains basic flow operations in the builder, has limited integrations (Zapier, Slack, Sendgrid & Google Analytics) and a unified inbox. 

This plan is perfect if you want to build a minimal chatbot on your website or want to decide if Landbot is the right fit for you.

Landbot Paid plans

If you think Landbot is a great fit for you, you can use one of their paid plans.

Landbot’s Starter plan starts at €32/month and comes with 500 chats, 20 AI chats and 2 user seats. It also comes with access to the AI assistants, more elements in the flow builder and more integrations:

Landbot’s Pro plan starts at €80 per month and comes with 2,500 chats, 30 AI chats and 3 user seats. It also comes with access to all the features of Landbot, and even custom branding for the website widget.

Moreover, if you want to get user seats, chats per month or AI chats added to your plan, you can buy these separately:

  • €20 per extra user seat
  • €0.05 per extra chat
  • €1 per extra AI chat

Landbot Whatsapp’s Pricing

Moreover, Landbot also has separate pricing plans for WhatsApp. If you want to get started with WhatsApp on Landbot, you need to pay at least €200/month (billed annually). This plan comes with 1,000 chats per month and 50 AI chats:

In general, I think the pricing plans of Landbot are pretty affordable. There are only two things that are a little bit odd:

  • WhatsApp is pretty expensive. If you want to get started on WhatsApp, you need to pay a minimum of €200 per month, which is a lot compared to other chatbot platforms
  • If you want more AI chats, you need to pay €1 per chat. And I think this is a bit expensive knowing that on the back-end they are just using ChatGPT to handle this (which is way cheaper than €1 per chat)

Analytics

Landbot provides pretty basic analytics. It provides a basic dashboard with the number of active and new chats and the number of received and sent messages:

Besides that, you can also see all the user (and their characteristics) that have talked to your chatbot:

But the best part are the Flow analytics. Per chatbot in Landbot, you can see how users went through your chatbot flow and where they are stopping. For example, if your first question is “How old are you?”, this dashboard gives you a nice overview of what the responses of people were. Really nice feature.

This is a really good feature that allows you to easily improve your chatbot flow!

Conclusion

So, should you use Landbot to create your chatbots?

Yes, you should.

If you are a small/medium business and want to get started with chatbots on your website or WhatsApp, Landbot is definitely a good chatbot platform to get started with.

They have an easy-to-use flow builder, you can publish your chatbot on 3 channels, built-in AI features, has a built-in live chat, multiple integrations with other applications and you can send WhatsApp broadcasts to start conversations.

Also, the widget that you can put on your website is one of the most engaging widgets I have seen in a chatbot platform.

But if you consider Landbot, there are also some disadvantages to consider:

  • WhatsApp is expensive compared to other platforms. On Landbot, you can get started with WhatsApp from €200/month, while many other platforms offer cheaper options
  • There are no marketing possibilities on Facebook. Because of this, I wouldn’t use Landbot for chatbots on Facebook Messenger

Moreover, I am not entirely sure if Landbot is the right choice if you are an enterprise company. While you could use it as an enterprise, I think it would be harder to maintain large chatbots in Landbot and there are some features that Landbot does not have, such as live queue routing (often used by enterprises).
