If you want to start conversations as a business on WhatsApp, you need to have a verified Facebook Business.

So in this tutorial, I will show you how you can verify your Facebook Business in just 5 simple steps.

Let’s dive in!

What is Facebook Business Verification?

If you want to access certain features on Facebook or WhatsApp, your Facebook Business Page needs to be verified.

For example, if you want to send promotional messages to your customers on WhatsApp.

Meta does this because they only want verified business to use these features.

Step 1: Have a registered business

Before we can get started with verifying our Facebook business, you must have an actual registered business. If you don’t have that, you cannot verify your Facebook business account.

Step 2: Start Facebook Business Verification

To start verifying your business, you need to go to business.facebook.com and log in with your Facebook account.

Once you are logged in, you can select the Facebook Business Page you want to get verified for in the top-left drop-down box and click on the settings icon:

Go to Business Settings inside Facebook Business

And click on Business settings:

Go to Business Settings inside Facebook Business

Once you are here, you need to scroll down on the left sidebar and click on Business info:

Click on Business Info inside Facebook Business

On the page, you will see the details and the verification status of your business.

Because you have not verified your business page yet, the business verification status will be set to Unverified. Next to your Business Verification status, there is a button that says View details, you need to click on that:

See your business verification status in Facebook Business.

This will take you to the “Security Center” page, where you’ll find the security details of your page.

Here is also a section that says “Verification for [your page name]”. Click on Get started or Continue to start the verification process:

By the way: If you have opened this section or tried any verification before, the button will say “Continue” (like in the above screenshot). Otherwise, it will just say “Get started”. Both buttons will do exactly the same.

When you click on the button, a pop-up will open. To go ahead with the verification, just click on Get started:

Next, you need to select the country your business is located in. In my case, it is the Netherlands. Click on Next.

Then, you need to fill in the information about your business and click on Next.

Step 3: Choose the Contact Method

Now, we need to determine how we want to verify our business. There are many options, but I recommend choosing email, phone call or text message because those are the easiest options:

Click on Next.

Step 4: Upload Documents from the Chamber of Commerce

Now, Facebook will search if they can find your business in any register.

If your business name shows up in public registers, Facebook will give you a list of business options and you can just click on one. If not, you need to upload documents to Facebook to prove you are the owner of the business.

Facebook accepts several types of documents. If you click on the dialog box, you can see the documents that Facebook accepts like a business bank statement, certificate or articles of incorporation, business license or a tax registration certificate.

In general, I recommend uploading documents from the Chamber of Commerce.

I have done this for many clients with several types of documents, but documents of the Chamber of Commerce always work. So I recommend uploading them for the legal name and your address or phone number.

If you don’t already have this, you can just go to the Chamber of Commerce and request the documents for your business. This will usually cost you a couple of bucks.

Once you have got the documents, you can upload these to Facebook and click on Next:

Step 5: Verify Contact Method

The last step is to verify your email address (or another verification method you used in step 3). Here, you can just fill in your email and click on Send email:

Confirm your contact method in Facebook Business as a step in the Facebook Bsuiness verification process.

Now, Facebook will send you a confirmation code to your email and we have to fill in the confirmation code, then click on Next:

Input the confirmation code as a step in the Facebook Bsuiness verification process

When you have verified your email, you finished the process!

Now, Facebook will take usually a couple of days to verify your business.

And when they are done with that, you will get an automatic email about it.

What if my business is ineligible for verification?

It is possible that you are not eligible for business verification, and you will get the following screen:

Facebook screen showing the business is ineligible for verification

If you find this with your Facebook Business, it means that you don’t need to verify your Facebook Business because you are currently not using a product that needs verification.

For example, if you don’t have a WhatsApp Business account connected to the page, Facebook will say you don’t need to verify it. But once you add a Whatsapp account to your Facebook business, the option to verify will pop up.
