Popularity of Chatbots in 2020

By Joren Wouters Updated on

Chatbots are becoming more popular every day, but how popular are they really?

To figure this out, I analyzed how many times ‘chatbot’ was searched on Google across 189 countries.

Here’s what I found:

  1. Every month, there are 235,360 searches to the word ‘chatbot’ (across the globe)
  2. The top 5 countries are the United States (42,000 searches), India (27,000 searches), Brazil (14,000 searches), France (12,000 searches) and Vietnam (12,000 searches).
  3. The popularity of chatbots increased with 23,3%
  4. The fastest growing countries are Vietnam (+ 56%), Peru (+ 46%), Egypt (+43 %), Venezuela (+ 42%) and Taiwan (+ 36%)
  5. There are still 75 countries with no interest in chatbots

Let’s see the results!

75 countries with no interest in chatbots

I divided the countries according to searches to ‘chatbot’ in 7 groups:

  • 0 searches
  • 1-500 searches
  • 501-1000 searches
  • 1001-5000 searches
  • 5001-10.000 searches
  • 10.001-20.000 searches
  • 20.000+ searches

What the data shows, is that 75 countries have no interest in chatbots (did not search for it).

Also, there are 60 countries where only 1-500 searches were done to the word ‘chatbot’:

Searches per month Count
0 75
1-500 60
501-1000 16
1001-5000 26
5001-10000 7
10001-20000 3
20000+ 2

This means that there are still a lot of countries that don’t have a lot of interest in chatbots (yet).

What’s also interesting, is that the total global search volume to chatbots increased, but the number of countries in chatbots decreased.
