Best alternative for: Getting started with AI Agents / AI Beginners

Home page of the Chatbase website

Rating: 4.1/5 ⭐

Go with Chatbase if you like Botpress’s AI capabilities, but you want something simpler and easier.

With Chatbase, you can create an AI-powered chatbot in minutes. Just upload your website content or documents, and it will train itself on your data. Then, it can automatically answer questions about your business.

You can also connect it to other apps using AI Actions. It lets the bot perform real tasks, like checking an order status or booking a meeting.

It works across multiple channels, including websites, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Slack. So it’s flexible enough for most use cases.

However, Chatbase is not a full Botpress replacement if you want to design custom chatbot flows. It also lacks some of Botpress’s advanced AI tools. It doesn’t have image understanding, conversation summarization, or automatic translation.

Also, it can only mimic a personality when prompted.

Pros

  • Train your chatbot on your knowledge base in minutes
  • Extremely beginner-friendly setup
  • AI Actions for connecting to external tools and automating tasks
  • Works on multiple channels (Website, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Slack)
  • Affordable starting price at $40/month

Cons

  • No custom chatbot flows
  • Limited AI toolset compared to Botpress
  • Cannot automatically process images or translate conversations

Pricing

  • Free plan: 100 message credits and train a chatbot on 400,000 characters
  • Hobby Plan ($40/month): 2,000 messages credits and train a chatbot on 11 million characters

Best alternative for: Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook

Screenshot of the Manychat home page

Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐

Manychat is the best Botpress alternative for social media channels. It’s great for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Plus, it’s much easier to use than Botpress.

With Manychat, anyone can create marketing automations and chatbots. You can:

  • Automatically reply to Instagram and Facebook comments and DMs
  • Send WhatsApp broadcasts
  • Run multi-step campaigns with broadcasts, sequences, and automation rules

It also comes with a built-in Live Chat feature that’s available right from the $15/month Pro plan. This is much more affordable than Botpress’s live chat option, which starts at $89/month.

However, there are drawbacks. With Manychat, you need to create separate messages for each channel. With Botpress, you can build one bot and deploy it everywhere.

Also, Manychat’s AI add-on exists, but it’s fairly limited. If you want strong AI capabilities, you’ll need to integrate Manychat with a third-party AI tool yourself.

Pros

  • Extremely beginner-friendly drag-and-drop builder
  • Full marketing automation features for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp
  • Very affordable live chat
  • Broadcasts, sequences, rules, and comment auto-replies built in
  • Integrates with email, SMS, and Telegram
  • Meta-approved partner for all supported platforms

Cons

  • Must create separate messages for each channel
  • AI add-on is limited; no advanced AI integrations by default
  • No website functionality

Pricing

    • Free plan up to 1000 contacts. You get basic features of the platform
    • Pro plan – starts at $15/month
    • AI Add-on – $29/month

3. UChat

Best alternative for: Omnichannel chatbots

UChat Homepage

Rating: 4.6/5 ⭐

UChat is an extremely flexible Botpress alternative. It’s a great pick if you want to manage all your chat automations in one place.

Just like Botpress, you can build a single chatbot and publish it across multiple channels. These include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and more.

It’s strong in both marketing automation and customer support. You can send broadcasts, set up sequences, and handle support requests with its built-in live chat. There’s also good AI functionality, including AI agents and a solid ChatGPT integration.

The main limitation? UChat doesn’t have a built-in AI knowledge base like Botpress. So while you can use AI to handle conversations, you can’t train it directly on your documents or website content to answer in-depth questions.

Overall, UChat is very similar to Botpress. But, UChat is easier to use. Although the interface can initially still feel pretty overwhelming due to so many features.

Pros

  • One chatbot across 13 channels
  • Flow builder for custom automation
  • Easier to use than Botpress
  • Works for both marketing and customer support
  • Built-in live chat
  • Affordable pricing
  • 50+ integrations (Zapier, Make, and more)

Cons

  • No built-in AI knowledge base
  • Feature-rich interface can feel overwhelming for beginners

Pricing

  • Free plan
  • Paid plan starts at $15/month

Best alternative for: Advanced AI chatbots on websites & telephony

Voiceflow Home Page UI

Rating: 4.2/5 ⭐

Voiceflow is one of the best Botpress alternatives if you need an advanced AI chatbot for your website or phone number.

It combines a powerful flow builder with built-in AI features. This includes a knowledge base that you can train on your own data (PDFs, website pages, or even Zendesk articles).

You can create highly customized conversations, capture user data, and even connect the bot to a phone line via Twilio. It’s a feature Botpress doesn’t offer out of the box.

Voiceflow’s AI capabilities are strong. They have:

  • AI agents
  • Intents
  • Entities
  • A multi-model knowledge base

However, there’s no built-in live chat or direct live chat integration. And Voice doesn’t offer native integrations with other apps. So you’ll need to use APIs, custom code, or community-built apps to connect it to your stack.

It’s also pricier than Botpress. Business-ready plans starti at $60/month. But if you’re looking for enterprise-grade AI chatbot capabilities for web + telephony, Voiceflow is very good.

Pros

  • Advanced flow builder with AI agents, knowledge base & intents
  • Website + telephony support
  • Multi-model AI options (GPT-4, Claude, Llama, Gemini, etc.)
  • LLM fallback feature for reliability
  • Strong community resources & templates

Cons

  • No built-in live chat or live chat integration
  • No direct integrations (API or coding required)
  • Minimal analytics

Pricing

  • Free plan available (50 knowledge base sources per agent, 2 agents and 100 monthly AI tokens)
  • Paid plans start at $60/month (7-day free trial)

5. Tidio

Best alternative for: All-in-one platform for websites marketing & support

Home page of Tidio

Rating: 4.1/5 ⭐

Tidio is great if your focus is website chatbots that combine live chat, automation flows, and AI in one platform.

It’s very beginner-friendly. With its drag-and-drop flow builder, you can create chatbot automations in minutes. You also get a built-in live chat inbox. So, your team can seamlessly take over conversations when needed.

On the AI side, Tidio offers Lyro. It’s an AI chatbot powered by Claude and Tidio’s own tech.

Lyro can be trained on your website content, FAQs, or support docs to automatically answer visitor questions. And if it doesn’t know the answer, it can hand the chat to a live agent.

Unfortunately, you can’t combine Lyro AI and chatbot flows. They work as separate systems, meaning you can’t pass a visitor mid-flow into Lyro for AI-powered answers. This limits flexibility compared to Botpress, where AI and flows can work together.

The main reason to use Tidio instead of Botpress is ease of use. Tidio is a lot more beginner friendly.

Pros

  • Very easy to use
  • Great marketing features on websites
  • Built-in live chat with auto-assignment
  • Lyro AI chatbot trained on your own data
  • Flow builder with conditions, triggers, and reusable blocks
  • 40 chatbot templates to get started quickly

Cons

  • Lyro AI and flows can’t be used together
  • No flow analytics for optimizing conversations
  • Not great for Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp

Pricing

  • Free plan available (100 reached visitors, 50 Lyro conversations, 10 agents)
  • Paid plans start at $29/month (7-day free trial)
  • Lyro AI add-on starts at $39/month for 50 conversations

6. Wati

Best alternative for: All-in-one platform for WhatsApp (marketing + support + AI)

Wati Homepage

Rating: 4.1/5 ⭐

If your main focus is WhatsApp automation, Wati is probably the best Botpress alternative. It combines marketing, customer support, and AI into a single platform.

You can:

  • BuildWhatsApp flows
  • Send broadcasts
  • Set up marketing automations

Wati’s built-in Knowledge Bot lets you train your chatbot on your own data, like documents or your website. So it can instantly answer customer questions accurately.

What makes Wati really good is how it integrates these capabilities. You can mix AI-powered responses with marketing campaigns. It provides a seamless experience for both your customers and your team.

It’s also beginner-friendly compared to Botpress or UChat, though you’ll still need some time to learn how all the features work together.

The main drawback is that Wati is really built for WhatsApp. It offers Facebook and Instagram connections, but without any real marketing tools for those channels. If you use Wati, use it for WhatsApp specifically.

Pros

  • Complete WhatsApp automation suite (flows, broadcasts, sequences)
  • Built-in Knowledge Bot for AI-powered customer support
  • Combines marketing, support, and AI in one platform
  • More beginner-friendly than UChat or Botpress
  • Built-in live chat

Cons

  • Limited value outside WhatsApp
  • Learning curve when integrating all features
  • One of the more expensive options

Pricing

  • Starts at $59/month
  • 7-day free trial on every plan

Best alternative for: Large customer support teams

Freshchat Homepage

Rating: 4.3/5 ⭐

Freshchat isn’t the most advanced chatbot builder. But if you run a large support team, it’s one of the best Botpress alternatives you can get.

It comes with over 400 integrations, so it connects seamlessly with your existing tech stack. The built-in AI assistant, Freddy AI, can:

  • Automatically reply to FAQs
  • Translate messages in real-time
  • Assist your agents in crafting responses

Freshchat is great for scaling. You get assignment rules, conversation routing, and a smart inbox to handle high volumes of customer inquiries. It also supports automation on up to six channels, including Instagram and WhatsApp.

On the other hand, the chatbot-building interface isn’t as beginner-friendly as other tools. And some features are hidden deep in the menus. It’s not very good for complex chatbot flows.

But for affordable, enterprise-level customer support, it’s an excellent pick.

Pros

  • Affordable for large teams ($19/agent/month)
  • Freddy AI for auto-replies, translations, and agent assistance
  • Over 400 integrations
  • Multi-channel support (including Instagram, WhatsApp, website and more)
  • Smart tools for routing and team collaboration

Cons

  • Not great for advanced chatbot flow
  • Interface can be unintuitive, with some hidden features

Pricing

  • Free plan for live chat up to 10 agents
  • Paid plan start at $19/agent/month

Okay but none of these can do what Botpress can
These replace like one element of it

Probably better to use the right tool, and hire someone to help with it if you need.
When my company got Botpress, they did the initial set up for us

It’s not always what the platform do, but also if someone can use it. For some people, Botpress is too technical, so then Chatbase or Voiceflow might be a better fit. Also, with Botpress, it’s not possible to automatically reply to Facebook/Instagram comments, so then you need a tool like Manychat.
